Prioritise for Profit

Looking at increasing profitability we see organisational issues that frequently occur. Here are some symptoms:

  • Wasting time e.g. "Can you just..." (Un-prioritised request for work from Sales or PMgr.)
  • Personal crusades - I'll do it my way if it kills me! (and the project!)
  • In-efficient processes that hinder, not accelerate
  • Late delivery  ~ we always do this, it's in our culture
  • Underspending capital - resourcing and focus issue

Many requests for change are what amounts to initial feasibility studies for customer bids, new opportunities, operational improvement, new developments, new enhancements, new services, new processes or new applications.  If left to run, staff will continue these above behaviours which will lower company operating efficiency.

There is a Silver Bullet!

Fishbone knows that it is possible to improve profits by using two parallel approaches:

Prioritisation - market/customer defined priorities become the Company "to do list" and anything else is not worked on! Prioritising is a business transformation.

Effective Communication - frequent internal communication of business priorities and progress positively impacts staff motivation, and staff vision, to deliver projects more conscientiously, more quickly and more profitably.
